RETNA’s Cryptograph is fairly abstract work that represents his first artwork on the blockchain. He states that this artwork is symbolic of earth and that the letters and typography he uses in it, pertain to both the feminine and the masculine which together make up the Earth. He created his artwork on a tablet and has used a mixture of thin pencil strokes with bolder paint brush strokes to build up the layers of line and colour behind his lettering. He has signed the artwork in blue pencil at the top right.

RETNA is a contemporary artist, primarily recognized for graffiti art. He was born and raised in LA, California and he started his career in the early 1990s. He has developed his own distinctive graffiti art form and constructed his own typography and letterforms which are derived from a variety of other calligraphic scripts including Blackletter, Egyptian Hieroglyphs, Arabic, Hebrew and others. His work has been widely exhibited all over the world including at the Don Gallery in Milan and the Yves Laroche Galerie d’Art in Montreal among others. He has also worked with brands such as Louis Vuitton and Nike. His artwork also adorns the cover of Justin Bieber’s Purpose Album that debuted in 2015.
