This Cryptograph is Part 1 of Piers’ Weight Of Inflation Series. A series of works that literally dissects the concept of inflation and the interaction of Crypto and Fiat currencies. The works were designed to reflect how currencies interact with one another, with a specific intention to highlight each individual currency and how it can stand alone to represent the fortunes of the countries it represents. Each sculpture is a metaphor for how all traditional currencies of the world are edging closer to a point of no return and how the digital world is slowly phasing out physical transactions and money; as Piers states ‘’cash passing hand-to-hand is becoming a memory and we should look to embrace new concepts around Blockchain, Cryptocurrency and also how art fits in this new space.’’ Each artwork in the series was designed to be a digital artwork from the outset but each one started out life as a physical 3D sculpture that was created using traditional techniques. Each sculpture was then digitised via 360 degree photography and immortalised as an NFT after which the physical form of the artwork was then subsequently destroyed. In this specific Cryptograph (Part 1 of the series) the artwork depicts the Russian Ruble, Japanese Yen, US Dollar and Korean Won currencies that each appear and blend into one another as the piece rotates. As the viewer continues to explore this work further, Piers reveals to us that although each currency can stand alone they are all still at the mercy of one another and subject to greater forces that are beyond each country's individual control, As Piers puts it ‘’The weight of Inflation is already here...’’
